In typing, matter or setting up copy, errors inevitably creep in by striking a wrong letter or duplicating or omitting a letter or word. In this edition correction of these minute errors has been omitted for two reasons: first because of the urge for getting the book out at the earliest possible moment; second, because of the urge for precluding any items of expense not vital to the real purpose of the book.
This explanation is made in order that the cousins may know that there has not been willful remissness or indifferent oversight. We have simply omitted, with this explanation, one of the usual steps in book making, the detailed correction of final proof. Following is a list of errors and omissions that have been noted:
