J. E. Hazlett, of Nelson, Is Dead

Succumbs to Pneumonia; Prominent Republican and Trustee of Mansfield College

     NELSON, Pa., April 27.---J. Edward Hazlett, one of the outstanding citizens of Tioga County, passed away at 12:25 o'clock this morning at the Arnot Ogden Hospital in Elmira. Pneumonia was the cause of death. Mr. Hazlett was stricken Tuesday and was taken immediately to the hospital.

     For 22 years Mr. Hazlett was a member of the Republican Committee of Tioga County, and served for two years as chairman of this body. Last year he completed his second year as clerk of the state assembly at Harrisburg.

     Besides his interest in politics, Mr. Hazlett held a prominent place in the church community and Masonic circles. He was recently elected to the board of Mansfield State Teachers College, was a member of the Blue Lodge of Elkland, and belonged in Coudersport Consistory, Royal Arch Masons. In the activities of the Presbyterian church of Nelson of which he was a member, he took a leading part.

     Mr. Hazlett was born and always lived in Nelson. His natal day was on August 28, 1860, and he was the son of John and Lucy Hazlett, both deceased.

     In early life Mr. Hazlett was married to Eva Baxter. who died about three years ago. He leaves two sisters, Mrs. W. O. Monroe and Mrs. William Pepper, and a brother, F. R Hazlett, all of Elmira Heights.

     The body will be taken Sunday to the home in Nelson, where the funeral will be held at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon. Internment will be in Nelson.
