Capt. Losey's Body Taken To Sweden
------

The body of Capt. Robert M. Losey, U. S. military attache who was killed by a bomb splinter at Dombas, Norway, Sunday,1 was given a military escort to the Swedish border Tuesday.

The United States legation said Capt. Losey's body was being carried in a small car over rough, snow-covered back roads of the Trondheim battle area, through Roeros, Norway, to the village of Fjellnas on the Swedish frontier where a Swedish guard of honor was to received it from the Norwegians. The body will be taken by train to Stockholm.

The funeral car avoided main roads because German planes are heavily bombing the entire region.

He was graduated from Mansfield State Normal School and prepared for the ministry at Princeton University. After his graduation, he served three charges in New York State before he moved to Arizona where he died.

1. Robert Moffat Losey was born May 5, 1908 in Andrew, Jackson Co., IA, and died April 21, 1940 in Dombas, Norway, while observing the Battle of Trondheim -- in which the German Army & Luftwaffe defeated the Norwegians and their British allies. His death was national and international news and was on the front page of the New York Times. There's a lot about him on the Internet, such as The First American Official Killed in This War.

2. James Taggert Losey was born 1843 in Tioga Co., PA & died there Aug 1, 1911. Cousin Cassius Kizer died from a fall from what had been James' mill. You may remember a letter from Cousin Harry Campbell that mentions Jim Losey's shoes.

3. Rev. Leon Artemus Losey was born May 20, 1880 in Tioga Co., PA, died July 8, 1923 in MT -- not AZ. [I never met him, but I met his sister, Lillian LOSEY Preston---wbt.]
