Charles Byron Lugg (1791 - 1874)

Charles was born Oct.11, 1791 in Bisley, Gloucestershire, Eng., d. Jan. 13, 1874 in Tioga Co., PA. His parents were Robert Lugg, b. Dec. 15, 1750 in Bisley, Gloucestershire, Eng., d. Mar. 27, 1831 in Bisley; and Ann Ely, b. Aug. 1754 in Bisley. Charles was the 6th of seven children. The eldest, Sarah LUGG Clinch Blackwell Campbell, emigrated to PA in 1804.

Charles married Mary Ann Chandler, b. June 17, 1797 in England, d. Mar 12, 1873 in Tioga Co.

Charles and family 1st emigrated PA in 1830, briefly lived in in Elkland, Tioga Co., PA, but settled on Thorn Bottom Creek, near Nelson. "But being disappointed with the country, he returned with his family to England in May, 1831."

However, he and his family returned to PA in 1833, settling on "Sober's Hill", in Farmington Twp., Tioga Co.

Charles and Mary Ann Chandler Lugg had nine children:

1. Sarah, b. Feb. 1, 1819 in England, d. 1884, in Nelson, Tioga Co, m. Isaac Whitehead and David Hoyt;
2. Mary Ann, b. Jan. 17, 1821 in England, m. Alanson Hoyt;
3. Elizabeth M., b. 1822/23 in England, d. Sept. 4, 1834 in Tioga Co.;
4. Anthony Wayne, b. Aug 25, 1825 in Bisley, m. Ann Kezia Seely.;
5. Eliza, b. 1828 in England, m. Lewis Levan Beiver (sometimes 'Louis' or 'Beaver');
6. Robert Samuel, b. Dec. 13, 1835 in Farmington Twp., m. Rebecca A. Bottom (sister of Dollie BOTTOM Campbell);
7. Charles S., b. 1837/38 in Tioga Co., d. Mar. 18, 1853;
8. Carolyn, b. Sept 7, 1842 in Tioga Co., m. 1st cousin Enoch Blackwell;
9. Unknown, died in infancy.
